The Topic

Nowadays, according to statistics given out by the SEER Program of the American National Cancer Institute (nd), about 38.5% of people develop cancer at some point during their lives. Children are not spared by this health issue. It has been estimated that around the world a child is diagnosed with cancer every 3 seconds, and half of those children diagnosed are blood cancers such as  Leukemias and Lymphomas (acco.org, nd). On the other hand., 80% of children diagnosed eventually survive cancer (acco.org, nd), partly thanks to the development of new technology and treatments.

I happen to be part of those statistics. April 2011, I was 13 years old and was diagnosed with an Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. After years of intensive treatments of chemotherapy followed by regular medical exams and check-ups, I beat cancer. It is now 7 years later and I am fully cured, studying abroad in Prague and creating my first documentary.

Articles and Research

Here is my research paper I wrote during my studies as part of the preparation for this documentary. I used 3 different research techniques to try to gather as much information that I would use or not in my documentary. You can also find references to other websites and research/articles talking about different aspects of cancer and cancer patients.
